Miriam Cutelis is a National Board Certified educator of 20 years with a varied experience in arts-based settings. Currently, she works with elementary students to support them in solving interesting problems that are personally meaningful to them. Miriam believes that in order to best prepare our students to become tomorrow’s leaders their education must place the child in the place of the innovator, creator and idea generator. Education should be an interaction between self and community, should be intellectually engaging, and always personalized to the child’s interests. Encouraging all students and educators to pursue their dreams, or “scratching that itch” to make their art become reality should be the ultimate pursuit of all, despite their role in life. Miriam is also a long distance runner. She began seriously running at age 40 once she realised she got winded running around a block. She has since completed 12 marathons in 8 different states, two 50 milers and one 50K race. Her goal this year is completing a 100-mile distance within 48 hours. Miriam has utilized running as a launchpad for self-healing, self-realization and a forum for personal growth. Running, she feels, helps funnel all aspect of her life into one co-exists, congruent self. Her approach, message and passion towards education and teaching is direct outgrowth from her own personal growth and struggles. She feels one’s career path in life should always be deeply aligned with one’s personal goals.
